The last time I stood at the Dan Pine Healing Lodge in Garden River First Nation was in 2009. I was a young mother, exhausted and carrying more pain than words could hold. Life had broken me open — the kind of heartbreak that forces you to face yourself, ready or not. I remember walking up to that Lodge, angry and lost, searching for something I couldn’t name. I prayed. I cried. I sat with my ancestors in silence, and I sweated out the pain in that sacred circle. That’s also where I received my Native name — Woman Who Walks with White Feathers. In Ojibwe (ceremonial form), I carry it as Ikwe Waabishkigaabo Bineshiiyens.
